Gratitude

Hello everyone!

Around Christmas and New Year’s Eve, Easter, the summer solstice, the end of a quarter, Ramadhan, indeed any sort of “end of a cycle” time, we all stop to reflect on what we have achieved. This may be done consciously or sub-consciously. I feel that this is especially true given the last year, and our current circumstances due to Covid. It is more important than ever to try and focus on the positive and be grateful for what we have.

This is key in the world of coaching, especially in circumstances where it is very easy to focus on the undesirable, facts or plans that go “nowhere” or are “frustrated” by circumstances outside of our control.

In these situations, instead of focusing on feelings of sadness, frustration, disappointment, etc., we can use our energies to focus on how we can produce the results we seek, along with looking at what we have learnt along the way.

How do we encourage gratitude?

  1. Choose how you interpret things

How about if you think about using these feelings of dissatisfaction, frustration, sadness, etc. as indicators that changes need to be made? Remember the coaching model of goals, flexibility and feedback. Consider treating these feelings as feedback and using them as motivation and a reason to seek out and implement change

  1. Balance and variety

Take a good look at your surroundings and your life. Family, neighbourhood, work, health, comforts, opportunities . Search and become aware of the most important aspects of your life. Ensure you are giving focus to the right areas in the right quantities. Are you spending time on the things that make you happy? or focussing on what needs to be done, but does achieve the end result you want?

  1. Prepare your future

In England people talk about resolutions way more than back home. This is especially true when they are preparing for the turn of the year or each time a project or an important event ends. They look into how to learn lessons, and how to improve the overall experience. I really like this way of doing things and share some templates with you that was shared with me, to help with this reflection and planning

Reflecting on what has happened to us, the successes, what we are proud of, what we had set out to do and didn’t do, what we enjoyed most, what we think we can do best.

Recognising who occupies an important place in our lives.

Starting to think about what we want to focus on, in terms of family, health, community, innovation, success and so on, is a great way to reflect on how many things you have in your life that you are grateful for.

If you want to discuss how to do this or other coaching opportunities you can reach out to Ara via her Linked In page or send a message via this blog to Twitt.comm and we can connect you

Here’s to your continued success and happiness!
