Times of crisis

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all well, overcoming what life puts us in front of us.

Today I would like to talk about crises.

There can be many types of crisis, however they can be defined as a “Deep change with important consequences in a process or situation, or in the way in which they are appreciated”.

In the world of coaching, many types of crises are dealt with: vital crises, existential crises, relationship crises, professional / work crises, and family crises.

We live a crisis when there are is:

  • Change (when the speed, the magnitude of the change are significant, to the very essence of our being & doing )
  • Uncertainty (what we have learned so far does not help us)
  • Feelings of blockage, dissatisfaction, frustration
  • detachment or disinterest

Several schools of psychology explain the causes of crises through the topics that I am dealing with in the blogs:

  • When we do not live according to our values, pushed to the limit, we are in effect renouncing to be ourselves (→ Think about your values)
  • When we are in dire need to listen to our emotions and our body, and pay attention to them (rest, go faster or slower etc). Remember: as feedback
  • When we ignore what we like and don’t like about ourselves
  • When we need to accept responsibility for our decisions, and  power on our own life. Many things depend on you, you can change them 😉 Can designing your life help you?
  • When we have pending conversations (with our family / personal network)
  • When we do not unlearn what does not serve us, (to make room for new ways of thinking, moving, reacting to adapt to the changes that life brings, then we stunt our ability for growth) (→ Gain flexibility)

This is fine. But what do I do?

  1. Keep calm

The rational part of our brain does not work in a state of alarm. The state of crisis is an emotional state or even panic at times. In the first case, emotions trouble our thinking, in the second we completely limit our options to fight or flight. Give yourself the opportunity to make good decisions by taking the time to calm down. You will see that you think more clearly. It is key to remember that a clear mind equals clear actions

  1. Collect information

Every analysis process is preceded by a research process. Take the time to gather information to better understand what you are dealing with. As they say in any data company: better information means better decisions and better decisions lead to better results.

  1. Use your values

Connect with what really matters to you. Clearly define what gives your life meaning, what makes you happy, what does that represent.

  1. Plan your success

Every path is best tackled with a clear destination and a roadmap. Sometimes there maybe detours, but always remember your end destination

Imagine how your response / reaction to situations will improve by following these guidelines. Visualise what this enables for you and enjoy it!
